Past Trial Examinations and Practice Questions

Hi guys!

Just wondering if anyone has any past trial papers or practice questions for Ancient? I've gone through most of the trial papers on ace the hsc as well as the actual HSC examinations from previous years and really want to kick Ancients butt next Monday haha.

Or if anyone had any predictions for what they're going to ask this year in relation to Pompeii and Herculaneum, Sparta, Agrippina and Augustan Age?

Good luck with studying! :)

I feel like either Alcman or Tyretaus may show up for Sparta because I don't think they have for awhile, and apparently BOSTES loves  giving students questions to students from the latter half of the syllabus because students often neglect to study them

Thanks guys!

I'm thinking they could ask Greek writers/literature for Sparta for the 12/15 marker, either that or maybe architecture or Lycurgus? I'm really hoping it's not from every day life for the larger marks but will definitely practice it now that you've said that haha.

Probably pretty difficult to guess what will be in P + H because there's so much and so many sources they could pull. As long as Augustus is a nice broad question and not something specific it should be pretty nice.

Oh man I'd hate an architecture question! Yeah, literature is my bet, though I think Spartan constitution could crop up.
For Agrippina I'm thinking maybe for Part A something on relationships as a basis for her power? So her husbands, family and patrons. Idk haha.

Julio-Claudians I feel like they might specify an emperor. If they do that, my bets on either Nero or Tiberius. And then maybe a question on the army?

I actually don't mind architecture because I've practiced it a fair bit, just sucks that there aren't many archaeological remains to support your argument. Check out this link (http://www.mrsgraham.net/year12.html) and look at the powerpoint for significant sites of Sparta, it's really helped me to do a practice answer, I just linked it all the religion and Spartan history.

Constitution would be way better than writers, wish we'd been lucky enough to get women/religion/kings.

I agree with Agrippina, definitely imperial freedmen, marriages, Claudius or role during Gaius' reign! I don't find Aggy that difficult though and it's usually a really nice section of the paper for me at least.

Talking about it with other people is nice though, glad to know we're all in this together haha. I love ancient so I really hope to do well and retain something similar to my trial mark. Hope it works out well for you as well! :)

Thanks for the help! And I agree, the Agrippina section is usually a breeze compared to the other sections. It's always my highest mark, followed by period study. Sparta and P&H are usually where I fall down though just because there are so many more potential marks to lose if you get what I mean?
Like with the essays/extended responses since its just one question, so as long as you answer it well and with a clear structure then you can easily get 23+/25, but with Society and the P&H, since there are more questions theres more of a potential to miss something, particularly in multiple choice which I have been finding surprisingly tricky!

Same if I can get my trial mark again I'll be happy, though I'd like to push it up by a couple of marks at least. Those damn multiple choice! haha

Either way, I'm sure you're going to do fantastic! Good luck for the exam :D
