i'm getting a bit confused, mainly with the difference between hydrolysis and ionisation.
can someone please help me with these terms. thanks

hydrolysis: reaction with water
ionisation: a molecule reacting to become two (or more) ions
dissociation: a molecule splitting up to become two (or more) molecules (or ions)

these often describe the same thing for acids dissolving in water (reacting with water to form ions)

I've got a question. Is hydrolysis a reaction with water to break up a molecule only or is it any reaction with water? What is the difference then between hydrolysis and hydration?

Hydrolysis
Hydro meaning water, lysis meaning to 'split'
Its just when water is split up ie in the self hydrolysis of water,
water splits itself up into hydronium and hydroxide
