Should I be doing 4U Maths?

Hello all,

So I'm part of the accelerated class of 2U Math at my school so I've just sat the HSC etc. I would predict my mark for that to be around 80~ so nothing great.

I've put my name down for 4U and made the class so far, (No Cut offs, class is 5 people so they accepted whoever is doing 3U). In 3U my Prelim Ranking was around 6th. Would I have anything to lose by trying out 4U? As I already have sat the 2U I can always resort to resitting that next year and drop 4U Term 2 or whatever.

I know I'm probably not fit for the 4U course and it scares me, but I feel like I'm in a position where I can do it and not risk anything. I'm just concerned that it'll require too much time. Will be on 11 Units (Dropping Physics).

Just need a direction, I definitely enjoy maths. No doubt, I wouldn't be asking this question if I didnt. Just doubting my ability at the moment.

Regards, Wales

I definitely think you should give it a go! Don't sell yourself short, nothing to lose by trying it and seeing how you go! ;D

Thing is your arguments are convincing enough to at least give it a TRY. If you find it's not for you, then you can always drop before it's too late.

Better knowing you tried and found it bad than not doing it and regretting.

Thanks, I mean I've got nothing to lose and I can drop it anytime. Odds are that it probably will outscale my 2U mark and give a overall big boost to my ATAR. In theory anyway.

What should I be aiming to get in task 1? What is a indication to where I should drop.

There really is no set number. Especially when some school writes papers harder than others.

This is up to your own judgement. Also consider using the raw marks database for an indication of what mark to achieve by the trials (however remembering that trial papers are usually harder than just ordinary tests)

Okay, I guess I'll come back here if I find myself struggling like a cat in water. Complex Numbers so far seems alright, it's fairly simple but then again, it's just the beginning. My teachers had kept saying it wasn't worth the time and effort given my position but I guess I'll see after my Task 1.

Thanks, Wales

Honestly Wales, if Tom did it you can do it as well. You might end up doing better than me.
You are definitely a capable candidate for 4 unit I've heard a lot about you from Mrs D'Angelo.
Don't let anyone question your ability, you are very bright.
Keep up the effort and if you ever need help pop up on forums.
