When results finally come out, will/did you check you ATAR or study scores first and why? :)

Whenever I do get around to checking my results, I'd be the person that checks my ATAR first... Rip off the bandaid and be done with it. That and the fact that when I do get around to checking, I'll have probs put it off for long enough cos I have absolutely no intention of trying (and failing) to log onto the results page the moment ATARs are released.

In my year, I had to check my study scores first, because the Herald Sun released the 40+ achiever's list at midnight, like 7 hours before ATARs were released. #anticlimax

I'd check study scores first though (or would have anyway). Does anyone think it feels more meaningful? Like I feel as if study scores are almost what you work for, and the ATAR just happens.

Study scores first! I feel they are what we have been working towards this year. Thought about SS when doing prac exams throughout the year and ATAR was just occasionally looked at through ATAR calc.

I checked my ATAR first because I didn't feel great about a couple of my exams, so knowing my ATAR would give me an indication  of  how I did in a couple of couple subjects. I ended up with a higher SS and ATAR, but if for example I got a 35 SS for English ( a subject where I was aiming for a 45+ but the exam went disastrous) and a 97 ATAR, I would have liked to see the 97 first, estimate my English SS (since I know that it was key to my ATAR) and then prepare myself to look at the 35. Personally I would feel better about a 97 ATAR than a 35 SS in English. Some people also prefer to look at the ATAR first because it is so important for their course, such that it's basically the only thing it matters so that they get it over and done with.

I also see the value at looking at your study scores first, in the sense of preparing yourself before looking at your overall rank compared to the state.

I checked my study scores first because I wanted to see if I got the pre-req for English lol

Cos you can get a decent ATAR with a low English score

It's gotta be ATAR first imho (that's what I did last year). If it's what you're hoping for, you can breathe a sigh of relief/cheer and then check your study scores in a less anxious state! If you do the reverse, you'll experience a few awful seconds in which you are rapidly calculating whether your SS's are enough for your desired ATAR (taking scaling into account etc), which could trigger cardiac arrest or something  ;)
Funny because that's the exact reason why I'll be checking my study scores first and ATAR second. :P

Happy or not with the study scores I get, I want to be roughly prepared for what ATAR I might get. Going in blindly is too nerve-wracking and I feel like if I'm unhappy with my study scores then maybe I won't feel so disappointed when I see my ATAR because I'll be somewhat expecting it.

Received my results by text so I saw my ATAR first and was absolutely not ready. I woke up when results were to be released but the text came early and I saw my ATAR on my phone's lock screen lol. Fail

I think if I had to do it again I'd still check the ATAR first, since I'd probably develop a totally false idea of what it was if I saw the SS first. (ie. overestimating... would have been very likely since my ATAR fell 0.6 short of my goal, ouch)

I've decided not to register for the text message for that exact reason. Plus I don't like how the SMS has the subject codes and shit and isn't nicely spaced out in a table haha

I thought that the results come out the day before the ATAR? Doesn't that mean that you would have to see the results first??

That's only for HSC. In Victoria, we get them all at the same time.
