Condensed timetable

Hi Guys!
I'm planning to do Science at UoM next year, but with a 70 min  train commute on the cards, I'm already thinking about how my timetable could work.
Ideally, I'd love a 2-3 day uni week (obviously putting in some pretty long days).

Has anyone condensed their 1st year undergrad to 2 or 3 days? If so, did you find that it was too full on/you stopped processing after the second lecture/physically impossible due to timetabling restrictions?

I'd love to hear about anyone's timetabling experience and how it affected their workload :)

One of my friends did this in first year, as she had a 2hr+ commute into Uni. It's doable, but it's certainly very intense and drains the crap out of you. You just have to be very good about using your days off effectively and very regimented with your sleep etc.

I will say though, a 70min commute isn't reallllllly that bad. Mine's more than an hour and a half and I've found that manageable for the last four years :)

Yeah it's definitely not the worst commute - the biggest problem is with the lack of regular train services on my line (stupid Vline).
Apart from the whole commute issue, I'd just really like to increase my availability with the hope of securing part time work. There aren't really many local places that are open at night, so regular full day shifts are my best bet.

If you're on either Geelong or Ballarat line, it's manageable in terms of frequency (particularly Geelong now). There are people on this forum who have done both of these commutes :)
But yeah, I definitely agree with you that it's best to try to cram things in together to save yourself having to make the commute and also giving yourself some time to do part time work. I started cramming my classes together in second year and really preferred that because the commute can be really draining, but you'll find—with VLine in particular—that the commute probably isn't as bad as you might expect :)
