Which to take first: Calculus 2 or Linear Algebra?

I'm going to be completing a Diploma in Mathematical Sciences alongside my degree, and I will need to complete both Calculus 2 and Linear Algebra in first year. However, I'm not sure which one to take first.

Do any past students have any experience/opinions with the order in which these subjects are taken?

Thanks  :)

Actually either way is fine.

But I'd highly recommend Calculus 2 first as it leads off directly after Specialist Math, making easier to follow.

Linear algebra have a steeper learning curve, especially when you start tackling vector spaces and eigenvectors. Those sure bring back fond memories of me being a total try-out to figure them out :P

P.S. For Calculus 2, I'd highly recommend the book How to Ace the Rest of Calculus: The Streetwise Guide by Colin C. Adams, Joel Hass & Abigail Thompson; and for Linear Algebra, I'd highly recommend the text Linear Algebra and Its Applications by David C. Lay, Steven R. Lay & Judi J. McDonald. Those books helped me heaps in Calculus 2 and Linear Algebra. You can get them from the bookshelf I've listed in my webpage 8)

Thanks for your help.  :) I have ordered those books.

Regarding the linear algebra textbook, how do you reccomend I make use of it? Should I just read it like a novel?

Hi everyone!
Trying to enrol in Calculus 2, but there's no way of ticking the 'enrol' box in the study planner and under 'requisite information' it says
"The following Pre-requisite for MAST10006 - Calculus 2 has not been met - Must have >=29 in VCE Specialist Mathematics."

I did get over 29 in Spec - do I need to contact the uni to confirm my eligibility or something?

had exactly the same issue and contacted the uni
you have to complete an enrolment variation form and upload proof (vtac statement of results worked for me) and once approved you will be able to enrol is said subject

Just like reading any textbook, don't read it like a novel, they're two different things :P For textbooks, take your time with it, first familiarize yourself with the contents, start working through the chapters and each section, and finally attempt the problems. When reading textbooks, most important thing is not to rush, make sure you understand the parts you're reading thoroughly.

Also unlike novels, textbooks usually aren't linear, so you can just focus on the parts that are relevant to the course, and cherry pick the parts you're interested in. I have to do that all the time, jumping around textbooks and skipping chapters, and focusing on relevant chapters.

Don't freak out, just head down to Stop 1, the student advisers, and they'll sort it out for you ;D I think maybe the enrollment system didn't register your score for specialist :P

Do Calc 2 first, atleast while you have a fresh understanding of high school maths
Lin Alg is a completely different subject and I personally found it much harder
