apparently it's fine (i'm starting uni this year)
People tell me lectures/tutes end 5 mins earlier than the end time and start 5 mins after the actual start time.
So your timing would be 9.05-9.55 and 10.05-10.55.

Sine would be correct. It is very common for people to have classes back-to-back, and in fact, I'd even recommend it. 1 hour breaks can be quite awkward in the sense that you don't have the time to sit down and study properly. However, you don't really ever want more than 3-4 hours of classes in a row.

Ditto to the above - Classes back to back is the way to go. Constantly having breaks is really annoying (and really stretches your timetable over a way longer period than it needs to). You'll always have enough time to go from class to class, and even if you are a couple of minutes late, most lecturers/tutors should be okay with that ;D

However, you don't really ever want more than 3-4 hours of classes in a row.

Last year I had classes from 9am-9pm, no breaks ... Worst thing I ever did  :(

I think it really depends on your overall work load. In a general sense, I did this often throughout my undergraduate degree (~16 hours a week of contact). My reasoning was that I wanted 1-2 days off, and this was the only way I could achieve it. I also tutored for a good 6-8 hours a week so considering all of that.

I hated long breaks (2+ hrs) in between classes. I preferred to just 'get in and get out' basically.

It also depends on how much you can handle - again, this is subject to opinion because everybody handles workloads etc very differently. I would try it for a semester and if it doesn't work out - you know next time not to do it again.

That's ridiculous how did you cope?

This semester I have 9am-6pm with 2 sets of 1 hour breaks and already dreading it. Although that is at a maximum since labs are weird, ranging from 1.5hours-3hours.

Coffee, pre-packed lunch/snacks I could down while walking from one class to the next, and occasionally I'd skip a lecture or half of one in the middle of the day to recharge. But most of it was labs and tutorials... Not fun times :P
