Opinion on physics (and other science) textbooks
Sukakadonkadonk:
Hey guys,
I am looking for anyone's opinion on the Excel Success One textbooks. I think that they are not that bad but are hearing people say otherwise.
Yes I am well aware of the Atar Notes past paper textbook ;) but since I have this Excel one now, I am curious to see.
Thanks!!
RuiAce:
They give MUCH better answers than what BOSTES offers.
BOSTES will pull out a random answer (potentially only band 3-4 quality) and leave it there. The answers Excel offers are always band 6 material. They definitely do over-answer at times (something you should avoid doing in the exam where possible), but they essentially give you all you need to get all the marks. As well as clear explanations.
I chose to buy the Excel Success One textbooks for this reason. The company is also either sponsored or affiliated (or something) with the science teachers association of NSW as well, giving it extra creditability.

Hey! The Success One ones are definitely great (not as good as the one I wrote, but hey, bias ;)). No but in seriousness, I think they are for different things. The ATAR Notes Product is Topic Tests - More honed in study, more specialised. The Success One Product is full HSC Exams. Really, having both would be the golden combo - Do full HSC exams, mark, then do topic tests on the things you need the help for! I believe they are meant to be used in slightly different ways ;D
Anyway, the Success One products are tops! As Rui said, watch for over-done answers (typing the answers without restriction, the answers tend to be a little longer than is actually feasible), and watch for errors - I know there were a decent number in the one I had for Math in 2014 ;D
Sukakadonkadonk:
Ok, thanks guys,
I'll see if I can get my hands on your textbook too then :)
Paul.I:
I am loving the physics atar notes topic tests but l just wanted to point out for future printings that the answer for Q2 of the gravity test 2 is incorrect. The answer states C but according to the BOSTES website the answer should be A.
Loving the resource can't wait for Bio to come out so l can have the set.
Also if you guys end up doing anymore posters for the other sciences will you put them for sale through the website?
Sincerely,
Paul Isaac
