Hi everyone!!
I was just wondering what kind of advice people had with regards to the amount of detail and depth required in Busman to differentiate yourself from the rest of the state who are also aiming for really high scores :)

Thanks!

Hey, Kat! How's it going? Happy second post! ;D

Great question re: 45+ in BusMan. I'll preface this whole thing by saying that honestly (personal opinion incoming), I don't think there's much of a difference between like, a 45 and a 50. A little bit of preparation, a little bit of luck on the day - that sort of thing. But obviously, if you're getting 45+ at all, you know your stuff, and I think that's what your question is fundamentally about.

There's a bit of a spanner in the works this year due to the updated study design (for the first time since approximately the Stone Age, which is slightly frustrating). In one sense, that's actually better for students like you, who are obviously driven to do well (you wouldn't be asking this question otherwise!). Why is that the case? Because there's new content, meaning fewer resources, which in turn means that those willing to put in the hard yards will benefit more than perhaps they usually would. (The gap will be bigger due to the aforementioned lack of resources - this is, again, just my opinion, and not really based on anything much haha (but I think it'd be true)).

If I were you in your situation, I'd be working really hard on working out mark allocation. IMO that's where some students (otherwise extremely capable) fall down. It goes both ways, too:

1. If a question is worth two marks, don't write three pages on it.
2. If a question is worth ten marks, don't write two paragraphs.

Pretty fundamental stuff, and those examples were hyperbolic, but my main point is that a lot of students either waste time or throw away marks through scenarios 1) and 2) respectively.

When you're answering questions, actively think, "where will these marks be allocated?"

Business Management has a lot of content, no doubt, but it's also true that a lot of people are capable of remembering that content. So my contention is that the difference between 35 and 40, or 40 and 45, or 45 and 50, is the extent to which you can adhere precisely to the marking scheme.

Pro tip: Past examination reports are excellent to help develop this skill.

(The other quick thing I'll say is that recognising concepts from given information (so like, in a case study) is just as important - if not more - as knowing that information in the first place.)

Does any of that make sense? Hahaha.

Regardless, best of luck! I'm looking forward to seeing you around the forums. ;D

In addition to what Joseph said, you also want to prove that you understand the content in busman; it's one thing to know something and one thing to show that you know it. To do this, use as many key terms in your answers as you can (speak 'business'), use real-world examples where you can, and be specific to the question you are answering - don't just recite information, use your knowledge to answer questions.

Hope this helps :)
