I don't get how any sports people are incredible. Sports people go through a lot , but so do a lot of other people.
They smashed boundaries or social norms? Well so did a lot of other people ^^.
I think sports people are kinda over glorified.
I agree that some sportspeople are over-glorified, but there are some that have most certainly earned the glory. These are people that have used their platform as an elite athlete to raise awareness, to defy social norms, and inspire young people. They inspire kids to stay active, and show people that it doesn't matter if you're a bit different. They can show people that they can make a life for themselves and pursue their dreams, which is pretty big.
Ellyse Perry had represented Australia in two sports by the age of 16 - cricket and soccer. She's been to the world cup for both sports. She was named Australia's most marketable athlete at one stage. She's been studying a university degree in the meantime. She's overcome a lot of discrimination and resistance and has been an incredibly positive role model for a lot of young Australians. I know she was for me - I grew up being told I couldn't play soccer because I was a girl, but there was someone, only a few years older than me, forging a path for herself - it showed me that I could do something if I really wanted to, and that it was good to have drive. Definitely helped me achieve a lot of things.
