Can anyone please tell me the minimum ATAR and Umat score required to get into the undergraduate medicine programme(direct entry) at Monash? And can you get into medicine if you do not get a high Atar but do exceptionally well in the interviews?

You want 99+ ATAR and 92+ UMAT to have a reasonable chance at your interview.

The three criteria for Monash undergraduate med:
1. ATAR
2. UMAT
3. interview

All sections are weighted equally so if one of your sections is lower but the others are good you can still get in. Basically they add up all your scores from the three sections and then rank everyone and take the top 300 or so. (note I've heard in the past people saying if you "fail" a section of UMAT your not considered - not true I know people in my course who failed sections).

Just remember though to get an interview they rate you on UMAT and ATAR so if both these scores are low it might be difficult to get an interview.

If you eligible for Monash guarantee (check the Monash website its not too hard to find) you're guaranteed to get an interview with 94+ ATAR and UMAT score of 175 (around 85th percentile)

I got into Medicine with a 99 ATAR and 90 UMAT but I know people who got lower for both who still got in.

Hope this helps  :)

I have heard of someone getting in with 97 ATAR and 97 UMAT, though their interview score and whether they had SEAS is unknown.

As a rule of thumb, you would most ideally get 99+ ATAR and high 90th percentile, then smash your interview. You'd have an excellent chance of getting a place. If your ATAR falls short a bit (e.g. low 97/98), doing extremely well in the UMAT  (e.g. 98th %ile+) and interview can pull you over.

On the Monash website, it says that 2016's lowest ATAR to enter medicine was 92.30, without SEAS points added yet.

Honestly don't get put off by smart people listing high scores that got them in- The entrance is high, but I know of people with much lower scores than mentioned getting a place- and moreover, If you can score yourself an interview it's a great place to add bonus marks where you may have lacked in ATAR/ UMAT.

Being generous, I feel low 80 UMAT and approaching 99 ATAR or high 90 UMAT with high 90's ATAR (ie. 97-98) is doable.

But again, it changes every year, and being put off by it won't help a thing. Put your head down and you may be suprised!

(note I've heard in the past people saying if you "fail" a section of UMAT your not considered - not true I know people in my course who failed sections).

Just to clarify on this point, Monash uses the 50/50/50 rule for all applicants. If you get <50 in any one of your sections, you will not be considered for an interview regardless of whether you got 90-100th percentile. Monash specifically states this in their 'Admissions Requirements - Domestic' page:

Students must have achieved a minimum of 50 for each of the three sections of this test.

Not sure about the context in which Janna used to say that people who 'failed' a section got in - maybe the rule wasn't in place then? But it is strictly in place now, unfortunately :(

I know a few cases of people with 99+ ATARs and decent UMATs (some even in the mid-high 90s!), yet did not get a Monash interview due to this rule.

Thanks VanillaRice - not very tech savvy with these things :)
What I was wondering was whether 99 atar and 90 umat place was bonded or unbonded,

Sorry I'm pretty sure you quoted the right post! I actually misread your post haha (thought you were asking what CSP and bonded were)  :-[  :-[  I deleted my post but it seems you already read it  :P

Just wanted to add that I had a friend get approx a 95 ATAR and 75 percentile and was offered a place! That said, he had rural SEAS and I'm not sure of the extent that played but I doubt not a large part (given we are from zone 2). It goes to show that it is possible with these marks! As mentioned above, don't be intimidated by those really high marks- If you are offered an interview you're in a great position! Best of luck :)

Rural plays a huge part in undergrad med applications. I doubt a non rural student would have even gotten an interview with those marks, let alone an offer.
