How important is it to demonstrate that you know the content back to front in this section, because I always feel the need to throw in as many statistics/quotes as possible to 'dazzle the marker' since not a lot of analysis is required :/

DON'T SCRIPM ON DETAIL! Section A is ABOUT packing in as much detail as you can - not trying to limit it. Thats literally the whole point of the question - they aren't marking you on your analytical abilities, but how well you know the content. Rather than cutting back on the detail, if you are writing to much what I recommend is instead making sure that everything you are talking about is RELEVANT, and that you are ticking all the boxes (i.e. the relevant syllabus dot points - they should provide your structure and framework). Along with this, rather than choosing detail that takes a long time to explain (at that point in my opinion it is no longer detail but a tangent), pick short and punchier stuff, such as names, dates and statistics.

But yeah DO NOT try and limit your detail overall. You DO want to dazzle the marker with detail - it is what differentiates a band 5 and a band 6 (and a band 6 with a high band 6!)

Hi -

always think about the following when writing about personalities
- what impact have they had on the world (during their context and today) . reflect upon what would be the same and what would be different if they had not dont what they did

- their actions . what did they achieve, did they have a positive impact on the world or a negative

- ideologies. teachers loooove this stuff - if you can incorporate communism, capitalism, nazism, socialism or any "ism" into your report thats an absolute bonus - it shows you understand the question youve put forward in depth

- AVOID life stories! things like their university, their family, their love interests etc are irrelevant to the personality. however, in some cases such as malcom x, ho chi minh and others their early life does have a large impact on their later notable actions. but always ensure you answering your question - do not stray!

best of luck!
