1) This simply becomes

 = ((sqrt(x - 1))(sqrt(x - 1)))/(sqrt(x - 1)) - x/(sqrt(x - 1))

= (x - 1)/(sqrt(x - 1)) - x/(sqrt(x - 1))

= -1/(sqrt(x - 1))

2) This is even easier:

= 3(sqrt(x - 1))/((sqrt(x - 1))^2)

= 3/(sqrt(x - 1))
