Well was always shit at english and did try to put in alot of work in until i was on the ground crying, but for some reason would always do awful. I did try getting feedback from teachers and trying to improve but didn't help. Anyway we just had our trials for english and well after my last assessment for english i lost the plot and all my motivation. So for my exams i would be shocked if got at least 35-40% for english. For my other subjects(maths-2u,physics,chemistry,bio) i've been predicted by my teachers a relatively good mark high 80's low 90's. So could english really stuff up my atar that bad. I understand that rank only matters for internals but being honest, my school isnt really that great at all not in top 100. Any advice etc will b appreciated.
Cheers hope everyones trials are going much better than mine
I feel your pain so much. English is definitely my worst subject which makes it so much harder to be motivated. I would try to set yourself some little goals to achieve for English and reward yourself afterwards. Even something as small as to write one paragraph for discovery or to aim for a certain mark. I think that you should try to find some motivation for English because if you don't it will be really difficult to want to study and then to improve your marks.
What texts are you doing for English? If it's because you don't really understand the texts there are quite a few notes here and you can always ask questions on the English threads. I'm doing Frost's poetry for discovery, Metropolis/1984 for mod A, Hamlet for mod B and The Art of Travel for mod C.
Otherwise, I would really recommend trying to get your post count up and posting some essays around the forum. The feedback is really detailed and helps you know where you need to improve and how to do so. You could even just have a look at the essay marking threads at other peoples essays and see some of their points and where you could improve on yours.
I think that once you get your trial feedback, even if the marks are terrible, read over all the comments and use them to improve for the HSC.
Also, I wouldn't worry about your school rankings too much-just looked up mine, definitely not in the top 100. I would expect that if you studied your hardest and got a good mark your school ranking wouldn't matter too much (actually have no idea about that though).
Tbh, i'm not too sure how much English does affect your atar but it needs to count for 2 units of your mark-this is only trials though so I think that you can definitely improve for HSC.
Have you finished your trials? Still less then halfway through mine (6 exams left). Hope all your other subjects went well.
Hope this helps
