Hey guys,
Does anyone have any good ideas relating to the legacy of Agrippina the younger - I'm super stuck.
So far i have that she impacted Imperial women by showing them what they could achieve, as well as putting Nero on the throne. Also her memoirs helped shape much of Tactitus.
However, this is wayyyyy too little for an essay so any help would be appreciated!

Hey,
I still need to study Agrippina heaps but here are some things that may help:
I think that you could also talk about her political legacies. She wished to share imperial power with Nero and have the guard/senate/people swear oath to her. She also aimed to secure the praetorian guard through Burrus and she gained more power, honours and privileges then any other imperial Roman women.

I think that the way Susie constructed these essays was by having paragraphs on this main ways that Agrippina was interpreted such as:
- The evil stepmother
- The sexual deviant
- The hyper-masculine woman commander
- The feminist icon
Through this you would explain how and why these interpretations were formed and how this contributed to shaping her legacy and the way she had been represented over time.

Her legacy can also be seen through the coins (Numismatical evidence-she was depicted as co-ruler and equal to Nero on some of these), statues (such as the Sebastion relief which shows her at the same level and in partnership with Claudius), and Ancient/Modern writers. She appears in modern day films/TV shows/operas such as Agrippina by Handel (1709) and I, Claudius (1976 TV miniseries based off Robert Graves book) which depicts Agrippina through Tacitus account as wicked/evil and Anno Domini (1985 TV mini series) where Agrippina is presented as manipulative.

Hope this helps :)
