To be honest, I haven't written a full text response for two years. I struggle with anxiety so I find it really difficult to formulate my ideas. I'm terrified now because I only have less than 2 months to the English exam. Can someone give me a idea on how to plan?
If anyone has time and is able to check my text response in the English marking thread that would be much appreciated.
It can be difficult to plan for text responses under extreme pressure, but doing lots of practice familiarises you with the process. I always start by forming a contention or answer to the question. If it's a yes/no question, then your contention can obviously be yes or no (but phrased in a nicer way). If it's a thematic question, it's a bit tricky but generally I try to question aspects of the prompt and formulate a three-pronged attack linked by a fundamental answer.
For the rest of your plan, you just need to split your contention into three main ideas and populate those ideas with a range of examples and quotes from the texts. Once this is done, you're ready to start writing. In the exam you will probably try to do this in around 5 mins as you will have chosen and digested your topic by using a couple of minutes of reading time.
