JCU medicine non standard

Hi guys, I just applied for medicine at JCU, I'm a non standard, non rural, interstate applicant. (Yes, I'm one of those people who got an ok ATAR but poor UMAT in Year 12). Currently sitting at a full 7.0 GPA but don't know if I can keep it that way this semester  :-\ Not asking for my odds of getting in, I realise that it's impossible to answer, you don't know what I said on my written application etc. Simply asking this:

Has anyone in my situation actually managed to get into JCU considering that they have a reputation for picking rural students?
How do you even convince them that you want to do rural medicine when you don't have any rural background whatsoever?

Would love to hear from anyone, even if you've never been in my situation
Also, good luck to anyone else applying  :D
