I was just wondering if we're required to know about quark colours and how they work and everything under the option "quanta to quarks" . Would we need to explain the colours if discussing  the standard model? We didn't go through it in class however in reading through some textbooks it is mentioned and explained although I don't really understand it.

Nah you don't have to know the colours. If you mean flavours then yes - up, down, charm, strange, top, bottom.

Oh ok cool thanks. Also, would we need to mention or be required to know much about the Higgs boson?

It's good to know about it. For example it says limitations for standard model of matter you can say there is no way to explain mass but the Higgs Boson has been proposed.
