how long should an essay be?

hello

im writing economics essays to practice (typing them out) and currently they're around 2000 words. I think this is too much? Can i have some peoples' thoughts?

They're essays you need to be able to produce in 40 minutes-1 hour depending on how quickly you do the paper. Also, in economics they want you to be really concise and to the point. It's possible to get full marks on 800 words if you're extremely concise. I usually go for around 1100, but theres no magic number, it depends on how little you can write while still covering everything.

Economics is definitely more 'quality over quantity' for essays. Ive made essays that were ~1400 words which got 4-5 marks less than essays around 800 words. As mentioned above, they want everything concise and they want a direct answer to the question - the bigger your essays become, the more time you expend from other parts of the exam, and the more likely youll start to sidetrack from the question.
