I dropped 6 marks on exam 1
Is there still a chance for me to get a 40, or high 30's?

I think it'll hard, but if you get a good exam 2 score then it should help.
I dropped 7 marks (depending if the suggested answers posted here are 100% correct. According to those exam score / study score predictor charts, getting 80% on exam 1 sets you on the path for around a 35, hopefully with a good exam 2 score boosting that to a 36-38
2017 ATAR: 79
2016 | Biology (30)
2017 | English (35) | Further Maths (35) | Business Management (40) | Psychology (31) | Physical Education (33) |

I know someone who lost 6 on Exam 1 and aced Exam 2 and got 42 or 43, so it's quite tough from this position.
However, considering the increased difficulty of Exam 1 (and probably Exam 2 as well), 40 is very much achievable if Exam 2 goes well :)

what about 36/40 for exam 1? is there any chance of a 45 or only at this point a 40?

45 is possible, but your Exam 2 score would usually need to be 59-60/60.
However, I feel that this year the mean will be lower than previous years, so a 58/60 might also get you a 45 :)

Hi Steve

I think I dropped 4 marks at worst and 2 marks at best/60 for Exam 2
I think I dropped 11 marks at worst and 10 marks at best/40 for Exam 1
My SAC Average is low with a 76.59% but in a low scoring cohort so I'm roughly in top 10 in the cohort (maybe 15)
What is my SS (scaled) potential?) 35? close to raw 40?
