History 3/4 without 1/2

(1/1)

Cyka:
Hi guys
For next year (year 12), I decided to drop one of my subjects and pick up history. Is it possible to do well in revs without having done history in year 11? (I did history all the way through to year 10, but not yr11).

A TART:
I don't do history but I it's one of my... let's say hobbies... History is like a giant set of dominoes with events causing other events and so on. Hence, having a good understanding of events that have lead to the particular event (which ever revolution) will give you an advantage. BUT, from what I can see, since there's no UNits 1 and 2 revs, you won't be behind in terms of knowledge by that far. (eg: Units 1&2 ancient and aus history is irrelavent, Global empires might help with the whole poltical atmosphere that lead to french rev, 20th century will help with Russian rev). Skills might be a bit hard with the whole "history analysis vibe" and essays or whatever they do. But I think you'll be fine if you put in the effort.

Do take my advice with a grain of salt since I'm no where near qualified to give advice.

Hi there! I did both year 11 and year 12 history so can comment :)

Definitely don't need to do 1/2 to be able to do 3/4 - all of the 1/2 History subjects are irrelevant to Revolutions. The only thing you might have missed out on is learning a bit about how to do a source analysis or how to structure some answers but tbh a lot of teachers do it differently for 1/2 History compared to 3/4 so you probably haven't missed much at all if anything. And even if you have missed a bit about structuring answers - it'll definitely be covered again so you won't be behind.

There were several people in my Revs class who didn't do 1/2 History and it definitely didn't impact them at all. There's no crossover of content, so you're sweet.

Good luck with Revs! Do you know which revolutions you'll be studying? It was definitely my favourite subject in VCE and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did :) Just stay on top of the content, write a lot of practice pieces so you know how to answer the questions appropriately, and give us a shout if you need any help!

Those were my revolutions!

Imo the two most interesting ones that you can study :) China was easily my favourite!! The longer timeframe can be a bit daunting at first but the events are a bit more spread out and it's really interesting! Definitely the most underrated revolution of the four :) Plus, you never really learn too much about Asian history in high school so it's really cool.
Also, the fact that they were both communist revolutions helps make things more understandable.
