I have a few, but a lot of subjects don't care enough! Plus, it's a waste of paper :P

The only subject I've ever gotten a letter from was Linguistics, which I only did one semester of  ;D I don't think they bother with them at the Maths department at ANU.

Congratulations.  Obviously unis really care about their students' progress.

EDIT:  Then again, after thinking, they would if the students do eventually become notable alumni lol.

Do you get one for a H1, or do you have to like really kill the subject and get 90+?

I don't know about other disciplines, but for law you get one if you get HD - you don't have to get over 90 (cos >90 is highly unlikely in law).

Same as some arts subjects (I got ones for French but they were more "you're good at this subject please don't drop it we need more French students" rather than congratulatory =_=).

Hmm... I got one for micro last year... I've had better results in other subjects though that I never received anything for.
I think it comes down to the individual disciplines and whether or not they choose to try and recruit more students XD

I should've been more specific. I meant that I don't think they give them out for 3rd year maths subjects. That or they believe a 95 in a second year subject is more significant than a 99 in a third year subject. I think the congratulatory letters are a promotional tool that they use to encourage students to continue their studies at Honours level.

I got the same letter (as QuantumJG) for Mathematics 1.

Jeff Borland also wrote one (for microeconomics!)
