J41's work shenanigans and other thrilling realisations

Today is (virtually) my last day of work for the year.

It's been a pretty big year for me personally. This time last year, I'd just got results back for my Honours thesis. I'd just been employed for 2017, and was about to go overseas for a month. Since then, I've done a lot of stuff I probably didn't think I would have by this point.

I think one thing that has made itself abundantly clear this year is the importance of people. Specifically, those with whom you work on a day-to-day basis. Colleagues would make such a huge difference in practically every domain, and I'm very, very lucky to be surrounded by a freakin' amazing group of people.

Days like today are weird, too. Oddly nostalgic. ATAR day always makes me think back to when I received my own results, and what's changed since then. It's funny looking back at the whole process - in hindsight (and probably also at the time), it all seems so unnecessarily stressful!

I just want to say that I am extremely thankful for my job.

In all honesty, I had a pretty tough end to last year and start to this one. I was in a bad headspace for reasons I won't go into, but I'm feeling well and truly back now, and living life. Loving each day.

I don't think many people would have the opportunity of doing work about which they're so passionate that a lot of the time it doesn't feel like work at all. That's what I have, and I'm very cognisant of what a privileged position I am now in.

Good times. 👍

After being back at work for seven weeks before uni went back, I've gotta tell ya:

I'm not a huge fan of now sharing my bus with a plethora of uni students. :-X

Now you get to be an adult that tells uni students to wait for the real world when they complain about semesters being long! ;)

Shouldn't you be doing an assignment or something right now?

;)
