Best Text Guides To Supplement Your Textual Knowledge

Hi guys,
Although these aren't in the book list for my school, I've heard that it is quite useful to purchase text guides to supplement your understanding in the books you are studying. Yesterday, I went over to a textbook store and spotted some text guides on the books that I'll be studying: Medea, 1984 and Stasiland. However, there are more than one guide made by hefferman and NEAP. I just want to ask which company's guide (hefferman or NEAP) would be best in aiding my studies in English throughout next year.
