What are the main tricks examiners put in to stump people for data analysis?

The examiners like to put a question regarding the categorisation of certain data variables in Exam 1 (see VCAA 2014 E1 Core Q4), which is often slightly ambiguous. A good seasonal question like VCAA 2011 E1 Core Q12 often likes to pop up here and there to trip students up. Drawing in regression lines can often be a typical stumbling point too.

After doing a lot of past further exams you can see that VCAA does similar tricks every other year. For example, when reading graphs in the data section, let the regression line be y=2x+2, they show the "y intercept" to be 20 but the x coordinate is 9 so people who say 20 is the y inte is wrong as they didnt check the scales also, with the regression line or data transformation qs they change the units up for the final answer so make sure you read what units they had in the qs and what they want in the qs (in 1000s).
