I'm a BCom (Accounting/Finance) student intending to commence the Diploma in Informatics in mid-2018, just got a few queries which I hope will help me with subject selection (hoping that anyone can help me with this...).
First, just a few admin pointers:*I just finished my first year in the BCom - H1 WAM (mid-80's, with overload in 2017 S2), 7x H1;
*Yes, I'm doing a double major;
*Yes, I'm also doing a tax law breadth track (PBL + corp law + tax law 1 + tax law 2);
*Yes, I will be completing 387.5 points across both programs (if my application is successful);
*And yes, I know I will have to overload at least one more time to comply with the "24-months part-time" requirement for the D-INFO
Now to my queries:1. I did AM1 (MAST10008 - 76 H2A) in semester 1 2017 (required for Actuarial, but I switched majors mid-year), but a few level-3 informatics subjects require level-2 subjects with 25pts of university-level maths as the pre-requisite. I currently only have 12.5 (unless QM1 somehow counts...?), is there possibly a way around this (maybe talking to a department co-ordinator?)?
2. The D-INFO requires
one of the following: SWEN30006 (Software Design & Modelling) and INFO30005 (Web Information Technologies). If anyone has done these subjects before, which one is more enjoyable/useful/informative/etc.?(try to be objective with your reasoning please, but any opinion shall suffice)
3. Of the two subjects that require 25pts of university-level mathematics - COMP20003 (Algorithms and Data Structures) and COMP20007 (Design of Algorithms): what are the differences between the two, apart from the fact that they are offered in different semesters? Which one is preferable?
4. Of COMP30024 (Artificial Intelligence) and COMP30027 (Machine Learning): I am aware of the linkages between the two, but which one would deliver a more well-rounded learning experience?
Hope you guys can help me with this, thanks in advance
