Hello,
I have recently completed year 12 with an ATAR that will qualify me to undertake a Bachelor of Biomedicine degree at Uni Melb for 2018. I have done a lot of reading lately, making me particularly sceptical of the difficulty in getting into graduate entry medicine (particularly Melb MD). Is maintaining a competitive GPA, GAMSAT and a successful interview as hard as people make it out to be, or will hard work and perseverance enable success in this particular scenario? Since I only have a day to decide my first round preferences, I was thinking of taking the guaranteed route and instead positioning La Trobe Dentistry as my first preference, due to its guaranteed pathway to becoming a dentist. But the biggest turn off for me is the fact that the course is located in Bendigo. :'(
Please help!

Thank you

if it means anything generally one third of UoM biomed get into MD however I feel that percentage will drop since UoM biomed are taking in a lot more students recently i.e. 2017 onwards

latrobe dent is great if you are sure you want to be a dentist I have a friend doing it and he says it takes him 2 hours by vline to get to bendigo via vline train (lives around Monash Uni).

Someone has to get in, why shouldn't it be you? I have lived with several med students (about 7 of them) and they are all of mixed abilities, but at the end of the day they are all normal people. They did put a lot of effort into their studies and maintained social lives. Their advice to me was to try your best, persevere and keep calm, don't get stressed about the technicals. The pathway into medicine doesn't only just test your academic skills, it also tests your social skills, your maturity and your ability to think logically and critically. It may seem difficult now, but you have the next few years to build yourself up. Try your best and at the end of the day, there are always other pathways.

I think that this has been some good advice and it definitely made things clearer to me.

Never doubt your abilities, take the pathway that your truly want. Good luck.

Agree with above. I could be clinically an idiot and yet they let me in, so why shouldn’t you?

Jokes aside, it is hard work but it’s definitely doable.
