Credit for prior study (any uni to Monash)

Hi guys!

I'm just wondering if anyone has ever transferred credits from any uni to Monash and got them credited as FACULTY electives (eg arts electives) even though there is no subject that directly corresponds to that subject at Monash. For example, I did a history subject at Melbourne and at Monash I want to get it credited as an arts elective. As far as I know, there is no exact 'match' for the subject at Monash. Can it still be credited as an arts elective? I plan to transfer into commerce/arts and we are only allowed arts electives instead of general electives.

Yes, I know that the only way to know for sure is to apply for credit transfer. This is not yet possible as I want to change my vtac preferences to get into this degree. I know that my experience getting credits transferred will be unique to anyone else's but hearing from a past transfer student (from any uni to Monash) will really put my mind at ease for the time being.

If anyone can give me their experience, I would truly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

You can check this to see if there has been any precedent for your specific unit :)

Hi,

I have already checked that and it does not show up. I was just wondering if since the subject I did at unimelb fell under 'arts' I could use it as an arts elective at Monash. I'm not looking to credit it as a core subject or a subject for my major/minor.

For example, when I transferred from Monash to Melbourne, Melbourne credited some of my Monash subjects as general breadths (Monash would just call these free electives). There was no Melbourne equivalent of these subjects but I got them credited anyway as it was just used as electives. I'm basically just wondering if Monash will do a similar thing with the subjects I did at Melbourne except that this time they will be credited under arts electives and not just free electives (any faculty). I am certain my subjects can be credited as 'unspecified credit' which go under free electives but I want them credited as faculty electives as I have no more room for free electives.

This is extremely hard to word properly so I apologize in advance if I've confused you again!

It might be worth emailing/calling the Arts faculty at Monash directly, as your situation seems quite specific.

Hopefully someone else here has been in a similar situation and can help you out, but otherwise contacting the people who will actually be in charge of granting you the credit is your best bet. If they aren't able to give a satisfactory answer, unfortunately you'll just have to wait until round 2 offers.
