Japanese 1-8

Hi, I'm wanting to do Japanese as a breadth subject and wanted to know a general level and explanation of each of the 1-8 levels.
Like which level would be best for some fresh out of VCE Jap (I know you have to do the placement test but I wanted to have a general background of each level, like which sections are basic, intermediate and proficient)

Thanks

Most people start at Japanese 3 post VCE.
If you get a better-than-average score then Japanese 5 is also popular post-VCE.
In my own opinion I think Japanese 7 (which I did) is too distant from VCE standards. Perhaps a high scorer from a very good school.
Variations (which I got into from the placement test) is similar to 7 but more linguistic in nature. Honestly I don't imagine it being a huge jump in difficulty.

In all of the language units you essentially learn about culture, learn new kanji and expressions and write things. Orals etc also. Just what you'd expect from any LOTE subject imo.
You can check out the handbook of you want more specifics.
I'd probably say 7 is "intermediate". Maybe towards the proficient side.
I attached a prereading thing from 7 so you can see for yourself.

No, you cannot take the test again. It is a really interesting test and I think it is quite accurate. It's not something you can work and study for and do better the next time. You'll see what I mean.

Good luck!
