Week 2

It’s only week 2 and I have 2 assignments due tomorrow!!

My timetable for this terms pretty good-I’m only at uni for 2 1/2 days. Mondays are 6 hours straight classes (9-3), Tuesdays for Wind sympth (4-6) and then 1 1/2hr on Wednesday. I’m only starting to get used to the transport times again. I’ve been parking at the station and its really annoying how far away I need to park (even at 7-8:30am)!!
My timetable
I’m doing 2 education subjects this term and 1 music. Normally, I do the opposite so I’m hoping the education courses will be interesting.

I also started volunteering 2hr a week at a preschool in the holidays (I need to do volunteering for an award I’m doing). I brought my clarinet this week and the kids were so cute!!

Managing the classroom: This course looks the most relevant to practical teaching so far!! It’s been really interesting! We’ll walk into the lecture and they’ll be music videos playing and the lecturer herself is engaging. She is practising what she’s telling us to do which is cool to see! Each tutorial includes a mini micro-teaching activity as well: last week we worked on introducing ourselves to a class. For our assessment, we have to do 2 student wellbeing modules and write some reflections (mainly based off placement): it isn’t too exciting but it’s pretty easy.

Digital Literacies: This is my education elective-we get to choose one and this was the only one running this term. The class is really small for an education course (only just over 20 people) and we have our lectures in a tutorial room. I also don’t know too many people in this class. So far, these lectures aren’t as interesting as my other education course. Our ongoing assessment is an online google site/education blog. For Friday, we need to have the basic setup, About Me page and an opinion piece done.

Performance Lab: This is my last year of performance lab. I have a different lecturer to last year so hopefully it’ll be more interesting. Over the last two weeks we’ve had seminars on collaboration and rehearsal techniques. We have two assessments this term: a solo performance in wk 5 and an ‘arranged marriage’ performance in wk 7. For the arranged marriage he paired us with someone else in our class and we have to perform for around 4-6 minutes. He said he was going to try to do unusual instrument combinations so I was a bit worried at first but I’ve been paired with another girl who plays clarinet so we should be able to find a clarinet duet.

Bri MT:
What's your Friday class?

Good luck with your assignments!

They're music masterclasses for my performance lab course-when the uni gets someone in to talk/perform. Its run 3 times during the term and we have to go to at least 4 in the year.

Thanks!!   :D

With the practical stuff in the Edu classes (like practising how to introduce yourself etc.), what's the sentiment usually like? Is it like a "oh gee, here we go again - how awkward" kinda vibe, or more a "this is awesome, we're learning how to do stuff!" kinda thing?

I think it's a bit of both. Like it's really cool that I will do it at placement next year/its actually useful but it's also kinda've awkward as well. We were meant to be giving each other feedback and it was either "sounds good", or "you've got a good teacher voice". I think because some people are going on the longer placements this year it is taken a bit more seriously but it's still pretty awkward as well.
