Postgrad physiotherapy Melbourne University

Hey guys so I am probably going to monash university and completing a double degree with science. Is it possible for me to complete science at Monash, and then complete a doctorate of physiotherapy at Melbourne? If so, how do I know which prerequisite subjects to choose? It says I need to complete one subject each in human anatomy and human physiology. Are there equivalents of these subjects at other universities such as Monash? Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask.

Yes, this is 100% possible! My brother completed a BSci at UNSW and is currently in the doctorate of physiotherapy (UMelb) as we speak :)

In terms of the prerequisite subjects, I'd probably say that DEV2022 - Human anatomy and development and PHY2042: Body systems physiology would be sufficient.

The criteria below is taken from this website:

Quote
Human Anatomy:
Prerequisite subjects should provide the student with an overview of human structure and function and cover the terminology of:
  • Topographic anatomy
  • The principles related to key anatomical structures skin, fascia and skeletal muscles, bones and joints, vessels, nerves and viscera
  • The organisation of the body into regions and the anatomy of the major organ systems

Quote
Human physiology:
Prerequisite subjects should cover the basic principles of human physiology and may include:
  • Basic cellular function
  • Homeostasis
  • Systems physiology including respiratory and cardiovascular, as well as responses to stress and exercise.

Hope this helps :)
Life is weird and crazy as heck but what can you do?

To add to what Jess said, I think the best thing to do is speak to the university - they'll know exactly which subjects will fill the prerequisites.

Plus, you'll be able to speak to course advisors throughout your time at Monash who will be able to help :)

Thank you! Unimelb says: 'The Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT) requires prerequisite subjects in human anatomy and in human physiology (one subject of each).' So that would mean that I would complete one subject under the 'anatomy' discipline, and one subject under the 'physiology' discipline, correct?
