Hi!

So for me school starts on February 5 and I've barely done anything for my pip  :(
So basically my question is: How much work should I do before school starts?
I'd really appareciate a guideline  ;D

Hey, don't stress about not starting yet. I have friends who dont even know a topic yet. One of my friends here on AN, beatroot didn't start her pip until march! So don't worry too much!  :)
That being said, in terms of a guideline, have a definite topic in mind and a rough hypothesis, do a bit of research on your topic and stay on top of your log
Don't forget to check out the Society and Culture resource thread for more help!
If you have any other questions to ask, don't hesitate too
Good luck!  ;D

Hey there! Don't panic! You have enough time from now til February 5 to do stuff for your PIP ;D (most schools in my area already start next week!). Like Mada438 said, I didn't officially start my PIP until March (one of the last ones to start) but ended up being the first one to finish (submitted my PIP four days before the due date).

At the point, you really want to do some secondary research. It will be hard doing secondary research when you are studying for your other subjects. Read some articles. Go to the State Library of NSW. Check out the latest news. When you have your secondary research, you have a rough idea on what you want your aim and hypothesis will be. Same thing goes for your primary research methods. Most people usually have a questionnaire for their first primary research method then go on bigger methods such as interviews, focus groups, participant observation etc. At least when you get your questionnaire (or any primary research for that matter) done, you will feel a sense of achievement and will be motivated to work on your PIP.

What topic are you doing?

You can check out our resource thread right here for further help for your PIP.
Which will hold greater rule over you? Your fear or your curiosity?

Please note that I am no longer active on the forums.

Thanks for replying! I'm doing my topic on how immigration laws affect the socio-economic dynamics of Australian society. Do you have any recommendations for who I should interview? Preferably an official or someone who's qualified to give a trusted opinion about this matter  ;D

Although right now I have these options in mind:
Quantitative research
Survey
o    Send out surveys to immigrants and Australian citizens between the ages of 16-45 both male and female from different ethnic backgrounds – for diverse and wide range of information
Questionnaire
o    Send out questionnaires to immigrants and Australian citizens between the ages of 16-45 both male and female from different ethnic backgrounds – for diverse and wide range of information
 Observation
o   Observe the struggles and success of my family and the immigrants that I know between the ages of 18-25 – for a personal and specific information

Qualitative research
Interview
o    I will interview contemporary immigrants and Australian citizens of different ethnic backgrounds. My interviewees will comprise of both male and females between the ages of 18-22 years old and 30-50 years old. The variety in the age is to obtain in-depth information about my topic.

This sounds pretty good!
Maybe a focus group might be a good way to go too!
And definitely for your interviews, try and get people from both sides. If you could get some people ftom the immigration department would be good 😂
And definitely some migrants affected by the immigration laws
