Mock Uni Timetable Adjustments

Hey!  ;D
Uni class registrations are approaching and as I was curious as to what I'd have to be working with this semester, I created a mock timetable (that is open to any adjustments!). Sadly I've had to spread my classes throughout the entire week as each ascending Psychology lecture of mine (Lecture 1, 2, 3) runs on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday respectively. My Chemistry Lecture 3 is also only on a Friday. Can anyone give me and other first years any tips on timetabling subjects? Thanks!

First year is, quite honestly, a matter of trial and error. You’ll soon work out what works for you and what doesn’t in regards to timetabling.

Are you happy with your timetable?

It looks fine to me. A few things you might want to think about is:
- You have back to back lectures classes from 9-1. That’s a long time. Are you okay with this, or would you prefer breaks in between for eating, stretching, socialising, etc.? Do you think it might be a bit too much information overload?
- Depending on how far you live from campus, are you okay with your starting and finishing times?
- There are a few gaps in your timetable. You might want to think about how you will use this time, and whether you prefer breaks or back to back classes.

Personally, I found 1 hour breaks between classes a little frustrating. It’s definitely enough time to do some work, but I also found that by the time I got settled, it wasn’t long before I would have to pack up to make sure I got to my next class on time.

agree with the 1 hour breaks (they are pretty useless, outside of eating) and it's annoying to get situated and then pack up within 40 mins. I'd be ok with the timetable here probably because I've had the worst luck. My two past timetables have been seemingly random (monash use a preference system). However I've always had 5 day timetables they really aren't as bad as some people would  make them out to be.

I'm assuming there is nothing you can do about the gaps in your timetable which are good. You'd definitely be using those for socialising during uni and studying at home, especially during the first 4 weeks when content is relatively light imo.

Thanks for your input, Coffee!
1. At first I thought I could handle a 4 hour block but like you said, it is pretty long and I may hate myself in the future for this. I've pushed my Chemistry Lecture 1 down to 1 pm (after my Bio practical), sparing me around 20 minutes for a little rest until my next tutorial.

2. I'm accustomed to waking up early for commute so I feel like I'd be most productive in the morning rather than during afternoon/evening classes.

3. You mentioned that 1 hour gaps are a hassle. If so, how long of a break is most efficient to you personally? For me, I'm a little wary about having longer break times as I may just lose my focus and go home but I also feel like I wouldn't achieve much in an hour except going out to eat lunch.

I guess I'm just a little nervous about my timetable as I might find having my classes spread across of 5 days to be somewhat frustrating, but like you said, first year is all about trial and error.  :)

Then it's settled, I guess I'll just eat during those 1 hour breaks and worry about assignments when my classes are done. Oh, that must suck. How does that work? I trust you about the 5 day week not being as bad as people say it is, there's nothing much I can do about it even if I wanted to anyway. Boo.

Thanks for your reply, Sine!

monash is weird you put preferences and they chuck it into a system so the max amount of people can get number 1 prefs I think i've just been unlucky haha hopefully I'm okay this year (although thankfully half of my timetable was auto allocated :P)  tbh i'd rather a first come first served basis

That is a little odd but hopefully they'll be nicer to you this year!
