Hi everyone! Thank you for such nice messages!
I am currently doing six subjects which include:

* Advanced English
Mathematics
Ancient History
Studies of Religion 1U
Visual Arts
Engineering Studies
* After high school I plan on getting a job, hopefully a traineeship at an Architecture/Engineering firm *Fingers crossed* for a gap year. After that, I hope to go to University of Newcastle. It's pretty much my dream Uni. I want to work really hard to get the ATAR I want. To be honest I have no idea whats waiting for me at the end of this year. It's as if I am going to be wandering off into the unknown!

I know I literally just posted about stuff 10 mins ago but I want to talk about my Visual art major. On Monday, we have to talk to the art staff about our concept and what we are doing. I have things to talk about but I'm not sure how to link the artwork to it especially since I'm doing two sculptures of different things. I have plenty of ideas but I have no idea how to pull it off.

I feel like I wasted term 1 of art and didn't do as much as I should have done. Though, I can say that most people in my class don't know their concept yet and have no idea what to do. I'm glad I've started but I worry I won't have enough time.

I also want to pull up my theory marks especially for exams. Anyone know how to do that? I guess knowing your artists and artworks but how can I go into more depth and learn more about conceptual framework, the frames etc.? We have half yearlies in the last two weeks of this term so I've got a good 9 weeks to learn things.

Oh and I really want to get a band 6 in art or ancient history (I got a 21.5/25 for my term 1 test. I was super happy but I still want to improve)

Welcome to the Class of 2018! It's great to see more Year 12s getting into this Journey Journal thing. Good luck for this year, I hope you find this year to be a good experience, fun and interesting. Remember to make the most of this community here on AN, its a great place to go through the years of schooling in. The subjects you are doing look interesting, and seem pretty similar to what I'm doing in VCE! Again, good luck for the coming year, keep stepping out into the unknown! :D

Yay finally another Visual Arts student on AN woop woop ;D ;)!

What concept do you plan on doing for your major? I can help you with linking your concept with your medium if you want :)

It's completely fine if you felt that you've done nothing during term 1. In my term 1, all I had done was my BOW proposal and a painting that didn't even end up in my final submission. I didn't even do anything during the summer holidays. I know girls from my school who finished their BOW the night before the due date but even managed to grab a Band 6. I'm not saying you should do this (it's not a good habit), but it's always best to start early. At this point on, it's just all about getting on with your BOW. Term two is pretty much the term where you should be doing most of your BOW because the term with the least amount of work compared with other terms.

As for theory, the key to nailing section 1 is putting yourself under time pressure. When writing your analysis for section 1, you don't have time to have second doubts. Your interpretation should flow smoothly from one sentence to another. But also you need to differentiate the frames, conceptual framework and practice questions in order to get top marks. Once you have deduced which question is what, this definitely makes it easier for you to analyse each work. Whilst for section 2, the key to getting top marks is KNOWING YOUR FACTS! Know what time period your work is from. Why the artist did that in the first place? What historical/cultural influences impacted their artwork? There needs to be a running theme between your 3/4/5/6 chosen artists. I did the same artists for my half yearlies, trials and my HSC (Picasso, Duchamp, ORLAN and Hirst). The common factor that brought them together was that they appropriated a found object in their work and developed its purpose throughout the years. What artists do you plan on doing?

I believe it's worth giving the VA Resource Thread a quick read! ;D

Good luck!
