Monash Device Grant

Hi everyone,

I’ll be starting my year at uni in a few weeks, and today I was emailed an offer of the ‘Monash Device Grant’. This is essentially a grant of $800 to assist students purchasing a tablet/laptop.
I will be undertaking a bachelor of information technology and science, and was wondering if anyone has received this offer/grant before?

That aside, I’m able to choose form the following brands: Apple, Dell, and/or HP
I was wondering what most people use at uni/ or what most I.T students use ( if you are one please help me)

Thanks in advance! :)

I can tell you don't get an Apple.

Overpriced, underpowered and many programs you use in IT are likely not to work with Macintosh software.

$800 goes a long way towards a proper laptop. I'd go with Dell or HP they make good laptops go for an i7 with Nvidia at least 500gbs of storage and make sure it's got a long battery it's thin and not too heavy go to JB so you can try them out and discover the model that interests you and you're comfortable with.

I've never got a grant for this but my course doesn't require a laptop like yours might.

That's a sweet grant.  When I was doing my bachelors I got through it with a Macbook with bootcamp on it.  See if you can get a 2015 Air/Pro on the cheap.

Otherwise, just whatever that's light, has a long battery life and has a good keyboard.

They don't make MacBook air's anymore or sell them in stores

And it would be too underpowered for IT programs
