Extension History- Major Work- Proposal and Question

Hey guys!!
So, our proposal is due pretty soon- as in NEXT WEEK- (i know its fairly late compared to other schools...) and i was wondering whether i could get some confirmation on some aspects.

My topic area is: the documentation of history explored through the lens of the Manhattan Project.
My question is:
"The historian without his facts is rootless and futile, the facts without their historian are dead and meaningless."
Assess this statement through the lens of the Manhattan Project.
BUT now i am thinking that I shouldnt state my case study in the question... so am wondering if this will work better:

"The historian without his facts is rootless and futile, the facts without their historian are dead and meaningless."
Assess the accuracy of this statement in regards to the documentation of modern history.

Would something like that be better?? And then i can just refer to the methods, processes, aims, etc. of historians on the Manhattan Project throughout, as well as the value of sources in aiding modern historians???

Now for an outline of the essay... i am really not sure how to structure it!! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...
Should i do something like:
Intro
Value of Facts for modern historians
Importance of historians in documentation
Changing approaches, nature of evidence, etc.
Conclusion
and then just add Manhattan Project historians as a case study throughout??? sorry i have no idea...if this is completely the wrong idea please tell me ;D

Also- am i on the right track in regards to this? and does anyone have any inquiry questions i could use that relate to my topic area?

Thanks so much for any quick replies- they will be appreciated very, very much!!! i am currently a bit stressed!! :o ;D :D

Cheers,

Hey,

I think that both questions work well and are clear and historiographical. The second question is a lot broader and moves the focus away from the Manhattan Project to just modern historians. I think that it depends on what you want to focus on with your essay but both could be really good.

Yeah, I think that structure sounds good and adding the Manhattan Project historians throughout could work really well. Once you do more research you should have a lot more information on your historians and points you want to discuss. You can also change your structure and add in new information throughout the year until the essay is due.

I think that you are on the right track!! Just need to start doing some more research on your historians/main arguments and then drafting your essay later on in the year.

Sorry, I don’t really know the Manhattan project historians well so I can’t give you many specific inquiry questions. I had both historical and historiographical questions that I wanted to research in order to be able to answer my main question well.

Some that I can think of at the moment are:
-   What was the background of the Manhattan project?
-   Who are the historians who wrote about the Manhattan project?
-   What were the methodologies of the historians who wrote about the Manhattan project?
-   What were the criticisms of the Manhattan project historians?
-   What are the changing approaches to modern history?
-   What is the value of facts for modern historians?
-   What is the importance of historians throughout documenting history?

Hope this helps! Good luck for your proposal/major!! :D
