Attendance for languages

So basically in the handbook for language subjects such as chinese, it says that 80% attendance is required to pass. Is this for pracs only or both pracs and lectures? Also how do they keep track of 80% attendance, do they take the roll or something? Can anyone doing a language breadth, or chinese specifically, offer some more details on how strict they are for attendance.

Also just a side question, say I did not do Chinese 5 or something in semester 1. Can I still do Chinese 6 for semester 2?
Thanks!

80% attendance means you have to attend 80% of total class time including pracs, tutes, seminars, lectures, or excursions depending on your particular subject. All my language classes so far have marked a roll at the beginning of classes. Some tutors are more chill than others, but I would recommend attending as much class as possible as this is where the learning happens. You can't just go home and watch the lecture by yourself, you need to engage and contribute in class.

If the highest level of Chinese you qualify for entering is Chinese 5, then you must do Chinese 5 before doing Chinese 6. However, you'll want to double check this with Stop 1 as I did French and Italian, so am not 100% sure about Chinese (:

Good luck !
