Hey everyone,

It’s my first semester driving to uni and was wondering where some of the cheap parking is at uni ?

Cheers

It's not cheap. You can purchase seasonal parking passes which are cheaper than usual but expect to cough up quite a bit.

I'd personally recommend taking the train to Monash if it's the Clayton campus.

I only need to go to uni 2 days a week, so a pass (I’m assuming the blue permit), would just be a waste.
I’ve been taking the train for the past 2 years, but it’s at least an hours commute each way. It would only take like 20-25 mins if I drove.

If you're only going 2 days a week I would  recommend you take the train because it's hard to find parking at uni and it's much more expensive. Really adds up fuel + parking and time spent looking for parking

You get a cool  MYKI student discount too. I get it's far away but you will be able to listen to lecturers on the train or read and catch up on your studies with that commuting time.

There's a few metered parking spaces on and around Clayton campus. In particular, OC1 (off campus, corner Wellington and Blackburn roads) has hourly-metered parking with a daily cap of $5 or $10 (can't remember which). There's also a few metered spaces scattered around campus, and you can see where these are here (scroll down and look under the 'Parking' heading).

I've never driven to uni myself, but I would assume some of these spaces would be taken up relatively quickly. It might be worth driving to uni early one day (30mins to an hour early), and drive around the different casual/metered car spaces and see how full they are, and/or how close they are to your classes :)

If you get there in the morning, you could see if you can get a park in some of the residential streets nearby for free - it'll probably be a 10-15 minute walk to campus but that's worth it IMO.

Otherwise, like VanillaRice said, you can try the metered parking.

There's also carpool permits you can get that are much cheaper - might be worth having a look at the info on the Monash website for this :)
