Hi everyone,
I'm studying Like a House on Fire by Cate Kennedy, Rear Window by Alfred Hitchcock, Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks and The Crucible by Arthur Miller this year and was wondering what is the best physical study guide / insight books you can buy for these texts. Note: The Crucible and Year of Wonders are studied together.
Should had asked at the end of last year
Thanks.
While I didn't study these specific texts, the Insight Comparison guides are extremely comprehensive and well worth the money for the comparative unit. The analysis (included in the guides) provide a nice foundational framework for the development of further ideas.
As a side note, I'd strongly encourage you to explore academic databases, such as Jstor or Google Scholar for essays written on your texts. In conjunction with a study guide, these type of materials will expose you to highly sophisticated ideas ( and text-specific vocabulary!), which will help you stand out from the pack. Be aware, however, that some texts have been subject to less scrutiny/discussion than others, and so may not be as easily located.
All the best
