Is Language Analysis's Main Focus Audience Reaction or Author Reaction

Hey Guys,
Over the years I have had quite a few English teachers. For language analysis, some tell me that I should focus on audience reaction while others place an emphasis on author action. I was just wondering which one of the two should my main focus should be on. Thanks!!

I would say both. You need to explain how the authors action influences the audiences reaction.

Where you put the most emphasis can depend on what type of prompt you are given.

Yup, like PhoenixxFire said, both, but to be honest, it'll be more beneficial and easier for you if you focused on the 'what' rather than the 'who'. Ask yourself every time: how is the author furthering their argument?
