Rounding 2.5 to the nearest whole number

Hi everyone,

I am a bit confused with a basic concept. I just had someone told me that 2.5 rounds down to 2 when you round it to the nearest whole number. It's banker's rounding, when you round to the nearest whole even number (so e.g 3.5 and 4.5 round to 4). I have always thought it was 3 in my whole life. When is it right to use banker's rounding, and  which is more right to use in the context of measurements (so rounding 2.5 inches)?

This argument literally started over cutting inches of hair 😂 i would appreciate any help!! Thank you

Hey.
I don't think you would ever round down when you are halfway between two integers in methods. 2.5 would always round to 3, 0.5 to 1 and so on.

I have never heard of that.. the only time you should round down is in probability for method.

For example, if a question has a answer like 6.5 people, then you need to round down to 6.
