A stressed boi

Hii,
I’m not sure where to post this but I just need somewhere to rant about how I feel smh.

This term at school I feel like I’ve learnt nothing, not progressed at all and I don’t know how to change that. Last term, in preparation for half yearlies, I studied a LOT. In fact I did REALLY well in all my half yearlies and came first etc, and I’m happy about that. But since these past school holidays I’ve been constantly telling myself “okay I’ll start studying from today” but being unable to. I just feel so overwhelmed and I don’t know how to overcome this. It feels like too much is happening at the same time. I feel like on school days I’m always overly fatigued (even when I try to sleep early), and fasting doesn’t help that feeling. I haven’t studied for Business or Legal at all this term, read my Module B text, or have a creative or completed Biology homework, let alone studied it and I don’t know where to start.

Everyday I have no motivation to do anything because I’m either; too tired, have a headache, too depressed or something or whatnot. Today in business I was actually seeing things (I could see black dots moving in circular directions as I tried to focus on my work). And when I do try to study I feel as if my brain cannot physically understand the content (me in general math today ugh). I feel like I’m either burned out or going downhill and I’m scared. I don’t know what to do.

I know every HSC student goes through those low times, but I feel as if mine have been going on a little longer than it should. Any advice or spark of motivation would be great : (.

Hey!

The first thing I want to say is it's going to be okay! You will get past this no motivation stage :-) I believe in you!

Next, take a deep breath. Forget about everything you have to do, and just chill out. I find that reading or watching Netflix gives a nice break from reality, and when you get back to work, it's easier because you feel rested!

Do you have any goals you've set for the end of the year? Keeping those at the back your mind also helps, and it's that something that will make sure you do work if you don't feel so inspired. In saying that, don't be too hard on yourself too - just because you're not feeling great about work doesn't mean you should be putting yourself down. It's year 12, you're allowed to feel stressed and overwhelmed. Don't force yourself to do stuff when you physically can't do it.

As for understanding content, we're all here on AN to help you out. Ranting - we're here too. Remember we're here any time you need :-)

All the best!

Hey, you're not the only one. I just went through that exact same stage and only just got out of it. I went through a massive period of not doing anything, procrastinating, doubting and regretting. I kicked my ass into gear by just getting out a past prac paper and using my study notes to answer it. Basically, I gradually built up the motivation and now I'm back in full swing.

It might be a bit of consolidation but I feel like a lot of kids feel how you feel right now. Just put your head down and do small tasks everyday. Idk I once read that success is silently completing small tasks everyday.

If the lack of motivation persists - seek the advice of a friendly teacher in your school because the opinion and advice of someone more influential could always help.  :)

You can do it, I believe in you!!

I was in this stage pre and post half yearlies (which was such an inconvenient time for it to happen) but it definitely gets better from here. Just set yourself some small goals such as completing a few short answer questions each night or consolidating your notes for different subjects, etc.

If you ever need help with business or legal, I can always lend a helping hand  :)

Thank you for this! Since reading your advice I have indeed been resting a little and I'm relieved I have AN to ask for help for :').

I hope I too can gradually get back into full swing!! I've been doing small tasks everyday, hopefully I'm motivated to increase this though : ). Thank you for your positivity!

Awwh :')! I guess half yearlies would've been a more difficult time to go through this stage, but seeing you got better from it gives hope! If I ever get stuck, I'll make sure to ask :). Thank you!!

Personally I am still going through that too, I do release them on my HSC journal instead though and in fact I have somewhat limited my post to avoid posting almost the same thing over and over.... Though you are somewhat slightly better than me in terms of mental health since I did end up getting sent to the hospital to the school via cops... It was a weird experience tbh..... Though the thoughts reduce I still feel them sometimes when I am angered over my progress, sometimes I even thought of purposely jigging HSC exams over crappy internal marks (though I am sure it is just an emotional reaction).... You are not the only one here who loses motivation here, though I am sure both you and I know what once it's over than it no longer matters that much.....
A lot of the mods here did mention that the ATAR really means nothing after it came out 2 weeks later, Rui told me that once I just get to uni, it means nothing anymore (not suitable to say this actually given that I am obsessed with it just for the sake of recognition)

That doesn't sound too good :(. I can see you're stressed and I relate a lot. However, I agree with the mods on that it's true your ATAR really does not mean anything after that one day it comes out - and you decide what you want to do with it. We all have those thoughts about giving up on HSC and whether its really worth it after not doing as well as we hoped, but seriously that's worse. In the end, it'll feel better, much better knowing you tried (and possibly did really well!!) rather than focusing on one crappy assessment. The other day I went to a Career's expo, and I was actually shocked at the magnitude of ways through which we can get into uni - WITHOUT an ATAR. Like so many 'colleges' and gateway providers are available, through which we can actually transfer to uni after a year or two of study. Or even if you don't go to uni, in the end you receive the same qualification and can get the same job! It's alright and you're going to be alright.

If you ever feel stressed or down or wanna rant, feel free to message me!  :)

You see I am aware of this too... if it is merely a stepping stone I wouldn't be too stressed... However this means more than a stepping stone and the reason is really complicated and difficult to express here...  A lot of it is also personal so.... I would say much harder than if I were to treat it as one out of many chances..

Well if you’d ever wanna talk about it or explain it, I’d be more than willing to hear.
