Memorising!!

(1/1)

mitchdow:
Hi Historians,
I was wondering if anyone had tips on memorising quotes. My teacher says I'm writing well and understanding the different perspectives, but I'm lacking actual quotes. So, how do you guys collect and memorise quotes?
Thanks!!

mlidgerwood18:
I just collect quotes from textbook, ATAR notes history revs book (heaps of good ones) and alphahistory has some good ones too. I choose about 2-4 for each SIGNIFICANT event, and then print them around my room (desk where I spend most time), and make flashcards that I look at for each day (e.g. Rude, Champ de Mars... other side is quote) :)

This isn't only for English, but I try to memorize by reading the same things over and over again but it doesn't really work. Are there any other better ways of memorizing?

K888:
I find that writing stuff out helps with remembering it :) When I did Revs, I put quotes in powerpoints and made it so as I pressed the spacebar on my way through the powerpoint half the quote would appear, I'd recall what the other part was and who the quote was from, and I repeated this many times.

You could also try Quizlet or Anki! It's just a matter of trying a few things and persisting for a while.
