We have a assessment before trails and its two seen questions. One is:
"account for the nature of the political, social, economic and military developments within North and South Vietnam to 1964"
and
"Assess the impact of communism on Vietnam to 1964"
Ok so i am doing indochina and those were basically my practice essay questions
tbh my essays i wrote were absolute garbage, because even though my teachers say i have great ideas i can't properly express myself
for the first one i did PSEM cos its easy, you literally address the question straight up
paragraph 1 i did Political cos its huge, paragraph 2 i did socioeconomic and paragraph 3 i did military
paragraph 1 is mostly like north south developments, how they evolved separated by the 17th parallel, political ideology and alliances
paragraph 2 is the development of socioeconomic stuff ie.foreign support (china, soviet union, us), as well as stuff like sects such as the suppression of the vietminh in the south, as well as stuff like law 10/59, strategic hamlets and agroville program
paragraph 3 is military buildup prior to war
also chuck in a ton of relevant buzzwords and stats to make yourself sound cool eg. In 1957, US made an assurance to provide Diem’s regime $250 million each year, $170 million of which went to military
for the second one i did this really weird structure where i assessed the impact of communism on the three biggest players: US north and south
i did us first cos its got the juiciest stuff like red scare, mccarthyism, containment theory, domino theory also a ton of those cheeky us president quotes that make you sound smart. communism activates a sort of defense mechanism which 'forces' the us into the war
communism also has a large effect on the north, it becomes the founding basis of northern communism, uniting them all into an army of farmers and guerillas who armed with chinese and soviet weapons crush the us. even though the second half of the sentence isnt relevant, communism is totally crucial to the development of north vietnam as the dominant nation-state, so huge impact for them
for the south, theres not much there. it was my smallest paragraph but i mentioned stuff like policy and paranoia, how they attempted to stagnate the spread of communism with us support and aggressive policy leading to a sorta totalitarian regime
overall just huge impact, communism is great, cold war tensions just make everything 10x worse for everyone than it really is. so even though those guys are on different sides, communism still has a great effect
hope this answers your question
