HSC Stuff > HSC Mathematics Extension 2
Should I take extension two
(1/1)
nadja.birch1:
I'm currently in year eleven, i love the extension one course and I am currently at the top of the extension class and also the 2unit class. Having said this, my school is very small so I don't know where I am in relation to the rest of the state and I'm worried that I will find the extension 2 course too difficult. The main reason that I am considering taking extension 2 is because I love maths and I'm super interested in learning more complicated and challenging concepts however, I wonder if maybe my HSC year is not the ideal time to start doing that. I don't want to do anything particularly maths focused at university like engineering or anything like that and my maths teacher said that its not really worth it because the workload is so big, unless maths is the main subject in your career choice. Anyway some advice would really be appreciated because I am feeling very torn. Thanks!
RuiAce:
Why not pick it up, see how you go with it for a while, and then drop back down if you find that MX2 is killing your love of maths for you?
(Whilst students should pick up stuff which would hopefully set themselves up for uni earlier on, not picking something because it won't be relevant in the future isn't really a strong reason. Because doing "too much" in high school doesn't typically detriment what you do at uni. On the other hand, if it's your HSC suffering and/or your passion for the subject fading, that's a good reason to ditch.)
