How to study in end of year 11 holidays.

Hi there,

This is my first post :) but just wondering what the best way to study for year 12 is in the end of year 11 holidays for HSC (term 3 - term 4 break).

I'm planning on doing 2U Math, Economics, Geography, Business Studies, SOR II and English Adv for year 12.

Should I study the year 12 content & syllabus and create study notes or improve subject weaknesses and review year 11 content?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Hey there,
Welcome to the AN Forums!

The first thing you should do in those holidays is to take a break! I took breaks for granted but they are a great time to relax and take your mind off work for a bit. I would spend maybe first few days of the first week of holidays just relaxing and then slowly transition into doing light school-related stuff. By that, I don't mean full-on creating study notes because your teacher may have a different way of teaching something or maybe you don't understand something. I'm pretty sure there will be a set of ATAR Notes Head Start lectures around in September/October for the Class of 2019 (this is me assuming from previous lecture patterns) so maybe use those to expose yourself to Year 12 content but not diving straight in to teaching yourself content.

So that's for the Humanities/Math subjects but for English I would start reading your prescribed texts. That doesn't mean to finish them but start reading the first text you'll be studying to familiarise yourself with the text. You don't have to fully understand it but it's to give you a bit of a taste. Then, when December/January holidays hit, familiarise yourself with the other texts.

Hope this helps!

Hey! Welcome to the forums!
So I'd recommend looking at the syllabus for each of your subjects and look around online for resources and teach yourself some of the content before you even start year 12. This way when you do it in class you're not learning it for the first time, just consolidating your knowledge. Do this throughout year 12 as it will always put you a step ahead. Especially good for content heavy subjects such as business studies as you will understand the content better (because there's a lot in business to cover)
For English, if you know your texts already then read/watch them all and make some notes on them so you know them roughly so you're just building on that initial knowledge in class.
For maths, I'd definitely review year 11 content and address subject weaknesses as they can assess it in the trials and the hsc.

EDIT: Just saw owidjaja's post and i' cannot stress the importance of resting up. Its super important as without rest you will just burn out in year 12

Good luck!  ;D

I would say one of the most important things to do in the holidays is get really organised for year 12. Organise folders for each of your subjects, figure out how you will organise summaries, have a place to keep completed tests and assignments, get exercise books for re-doing test questions/working on feedback, even get a diary or something like that if you think it would be useful. You could even read the syllabus and work out how you will create summaries for different subjects, for exaple geography summaries will need to be set out differently to english or maths. I only managed to organise stuff pretty late, which meant wasting time figuring out where to put work or tests and then looking for things, as well as many trips to buy supplies.
Other than that I agree with what has already been said, goodluck!
