how to memorise organic reaction pathways?

So my organic chemistry sac is coming up, any suggestions on how to go about being able to comfortably know how to synthesise one compound from another? Should I just refer to a diagram and keep trying different questions until I remember it?

Also how much are we expected to know for the exam?

I personally prefer to take an intuitive/understanding based approach to remembering these but I understand that this might be difficult given that this isn't emphasised in highschool.

Last year I used an app called chemistry lab (available on android) and although it's more uni level than highschool level I found that that helped :)

If you're going to take a memorisation based approach flowcharts are probably your best bet
