Study score, ranking, marks???? Final Score

Hi,

I've heard many times that "your marks do not mean anything, it is about your ranking within your cohort". By 'cohort' for example for English, is it your school cohort (all the people in your school doing English, same year level) or all the people doing English in the state? Hope this makes sense.

for all general purposes cohort = those doing english at the same school (units 3/4)

Cohort doesn't really pertain to any significant meaning (study score/ATAR) unless it's at a 3/4 level.
