How To Maintain Relevance Whilst Challenging A Prompt

Hey Guys,
In a recent Medea essay that I wrote on self-interest I decided to challenge the prompt and say that Medea's actions are motivated primarily by passion instead of self-interest. However, my teacher marked me down and said of passion. Do you guys know how  I could avoid falling out of relevance whilst remaining relevant to the topic?

Thanks

Hey there!
I have this exact issue with my Essays for The Lieutenant.

My teacher said that if I did get it perfect, I'd ace it, but if I didn't it would be seriously messed.

SO, she recommended that I have a really, really obvious and in your face contention. Refer back to that contention at least once, if not twice, per paragraph. Really link your arguments back to it.

Hopefully it goes ok with ya... :D

Hey! I have this problem too with my essays too. According to my teacher and some previous students, the best thing to do is to use the word 'unlike', so for example - passion fuels Medea's actions to a great extent unlike self interest which plays a relatively minor role. If you only challenge the prompt by talking about other factors, without mentioning the main factor indicated in the prompt, it may seem as if you don't know that aspect as well, hence you're talking about other areas.

Hope I helped :)
