Would this be ordinal or nominal?

The variables, level of agreement (high, medium, low) and political orientation, (where 1=Labour, 2=Liberal, 3=Greens and 4=Other) are
(A)Both Ordinal
(D)An ordinal variable and a nominal variable respectively

Level of agreement: ordinal. However political orientation. Intuitively, I would have thought that given the 1,2,3,4 order they give, it would be ordinal however the answer says nominal. Can someone confirm this because maybe the answer sheet is wrong

P.S this is a company exam paper so their answers are mostly always wrong :P

This question is one of those grey areas where both sides could technically be right. However, I'm more inclined in this instance to go towards nominal.
Reason is: the numbers aren't really the data that's going to be represented, if that makes sense. It's the political party, which is not really given any particular order per se and thus not really ordinal.

This is a pretty bad explanation on my part, but this link may help to clarify what I mean.
Please tell me if my explanation makes no sense or if you have any questions.
A slight side tangent, although still relevant, is that a question vaguely like this came up in VCAA 2014 E1 Core: Data Module Q4. Let's just say, it wasn't answered well that year...

your company paper's answer are correct.

The reason being political orientation is nominal is due to the numbers are assigned as an abbreviation, in which represents the respective categories.

Hey :)
Levels of agreement, your answer was spot on. The ordering of low, medium and high do have some significance.

In regards to your second part, remember this! Nominal data is always used for labelling without quantities or scales. 1=Labour, 2=Liberal, 3=Greens and 4=Other. They aren't really quantities, where low, medium and high are. We can change 2 to Labour or 3 to Other.... it wouldn't meaning of anything in the sense that it doesn't really represent a scale or quantity of some sort.

This should explain it more easily!
